Gardening Enrichment - Part 1

Back in April was our first Enrichment night on gardening. Our speaker was Jack Hoffman. He's Donna Fitch's neighbor and friend. He spoke on gardening and talked a lot about his experience over the years. He has a large garden and gives away much produce every year to charitable causes (Food Link). What a great guy that gives back to your community. Our Enrichment in July will be visiting his garden! It will be neat to see such a wonderful garden.

Some things he touched on were:

- Don't be afraid to try new things. How will we learn if we don't dive in and experiment?

- Pay attention to the size of garden you have. Don't plant things to close. Know how they grow - whether it's up or out. Leave enough space so things can grow properly and not be crowded.

 - Know when to plant. Many vegetables can be planted in April before the frost is gone completely. Others need to wait until June.

 - Many vegetables can be replanted through out the summer for a continuous crop (ie. Lettuce, Spinach)
