Service Opportunity!

The following was sent to our ward in an email.
Hello All,

We have the wonderful opportunity of feeding the residents at the Reach home again on Sunday, February 21st. We are looking for individuals and families to volunteer to serve the meal or to provide food items. We have adopted to provide dinners at this shelter monthly!

If you are looking to volunteer please email or call/text Caitlin Salmon at caitlinpatricia87@gmail.com or 315-569-8144. Space is very limited so please reserve a spot if you are interested. Plan on serving food, visiting with residents, and cleaning up. Also, expect to be done around 6:30

If you are interested in bringing food please click this link and fill out a spot on the google doc. We will be doing chili and cornbread this time. Chili can be brought in crock pots and I will make sure the crock pots are returned to owners if you are not coming to volunteer.

If you are looking to provide food, please become familiar with the following options on how to make sure it gets to the shelter:

1) Bring it to the shelter by 5:15 (80 Prince Street Rochester, NY)
2) If you are in the 4th ward, bring it to church and I'll (Caitlin Salmon) bring it home with me.
3) If you are in another ward, bring it to the church and leave it and we'll grab it on my way to the shelter (please let me know if you are planning on this so I know what to grab and label the food for Caitlin Salmon/Reach Shelter).
4) If you live in Whipple Park (or close), please bring it to my home at 4:30.

Thank you again to all who are helping out with this. We will be doing this every month until May if you would like a chance to volunteer.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Rochester First ward! Below I am pasting the email the stake sent out for the New Years activity. May the Christmas spirit fill you and all you love!

Hey Rochester Stake:  Save the date!

Don't let 2015 pass you by without making some noise.   Come to the Rochester Stake New Year Eve's dance and whoop it up with the church gang.

Listen to the best dance music selected from the past 60 years. We'll be playing oldies and modern hits right alongside kids-pop music.  Sit and gab with friends or dance until you drop. Watch your young ones boogie while being live-projected on the big screen.

There will be pizza and party favors and treats (please bring your favorite finger-ready goodie).  Make sure you stop by the photo booth at least once during the evening for a great photo souvenir. Watch the ball drop at midnight (or 9pm for the kiddos--we'll do an early countdown then for those needing an early exit!) and wish your friends the best for 2016!

When:  December 31st, 7pm-12 am
Where: Stake Center, 1400 Westfall Road
Bring: the whole family, finger-ready treats

See you there!

December Enrichment Review

Hello Sisters!  For this month's enrichment we did a service project with the Greater Rochester’s Section of the National Council of Jewish Women to provide feminine hygiene products to those who cannot afford them.  I don't know about you, but I really hadn't thought about this being a problem because I have never had the struggle to afford them.  Did you know that these items are not covered by the SNAP or WIC programs?  Did you know that we pay sales tax on these items that are necessary?  I didn't, as naive as that sounds.

The activity was SOOOO fun, I'm not even kidding.  We were working and laughing and talking and bonding.  And even though the event is over, the need is still real.  There is currently a bill NY A7555 currently awaiting it's turn on the Senate floor.  We can make a difference simply by letting our representatives know that we support this bill.  Here is a link to do that, it is super easy and takes just a few minutes. CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT BILL

Afterwards, we had a nice dinner and loads of yummy cookies.  Chatting and bonding with our sisters is never boring or dull.  I have enjoyed every activity I have attended.  Our enrichment sisters put much time and thought into these activities and they don't disappoint.  I personally wish to thank them for all that they do. :) And we even made the local newspaper! Democrat and Chronicle article click here
